As a derivative of the HULU series, MMR not only continues the exploration of the form of gourds but also refocuses on the relationship between humans and Naturework. The HULU HOME Upright and HULU Home Teatable represent the transformation of horizontal and vertical spaces, attempting to use the HULU as a vessel. Traditional ways of using gourds are often cut open to utilize the "inner" space, whether for drinking or playing music. However, in the spirit of the new works, MMR is more concerned with its interaction with other materials and people, opening up possibilities for users to engage in various scenarios. The elevated space of the HULU Home Upright can be used for lighting, plants, while the grooves of the HULU Home Teatable can present a variety of table system by replacing the HULU bowls. MMR responds to this by suggesting that Naturework are a collaboration between humans and nature.
ophisticated process is inspired by the 'bamboo filigree button porcelain' and has similarities in the traditional packaging of ceramics in Jingdezhen. The rattan can be organically fitted to the irregular gourd, not only for structural support, but the stitching details emphasise the gourd's "rhythmical breathing" unlike that of wood. The rattan itself is not perfectly straight, as the weft often controls the overall form of the weave, and the overall installation takes on a paradoxical tension while respecting the design principles of the material.
